atentediam' 21. 12309.
To ell'whom it lmay concern:
Be it: known that I, MIECZYSLAW BARA- Aszfa citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles, of hich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvementsl in buckles formed from a sin le piece of metal.
One of the difficulties eretofore experienced in 'one piece stamped up buckles is that the teeth being stationary, and inclined more or less inwardly, particularly'on that bar over which the adjustments vare being constantly made, the travel of the strap or web oversaid teeth in on'c direction c uses the extremities'or pointed-ends of said seth` to scratch or scrape the material of which the strap is formed and thereby break or injure the threads to such extent as 'to become ap serious objection. Another` criticism advanced concernjn one piece buckles is that the threading of t e straps over the bars has lbeen such as to form a considerable outhump on one lof the cross- My present` invention therefore hasl among its objects to provide an improved construe tion and arrangement of teeth which will permit the strap1 to pass over the teeth Without injury to t e strap and another object is -to provide a construction olf-buckle whereby the hump beyond the'outer surface Tof the buckle plate above referred to, will be practically eliminated.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which,-
Figure 1 illustrates a the improved buckle. 1g. 2, shows a crosssectional view of the same. Fi 3, illustrates a similar view of the buck e with the@ straps threaded therethrough. Fig. 4, shows Fig, .5 illustrates a perspective viewof a buckle like that shown in Fig. 1 with-.the'exception omitted, and Fig. 6 shows a face viewof the buckle illustrated in Fig. 5 with one strap threaded around the depressed toothless bar and stitched.
Referring to the drawin it will be seen that the buckle is formed 1n a single piece,
referably of sheet metal orm'tion of the lbuckle by a die. This buckle, as' illustrated has the two side bars,
y teethone of the strap erspective view. of
which enables theJ` l Application filed December 22, 1906. Serial No. 349.054.
1, and end bars, 2, and, 3. lt may have a' lura'lity of cross-bars connecting the side ars and extending parallel with and between the end bars, butin the simplest form, such as illustrated, there is a central crossbar 4, connecting the two side bars, 1.
The end bar, 2, isA rovided with my improved construction o teeth,5. These teeth are formed at the inner'edge, 6, of the end bar, 2, `and have an inwardly-extending I portion, 7, which project beyond the inner side of the buckle plate and a laterallyextending portion, 8, which. projects in a direction toward and conironts the crossbar, 4'. The lateral portions oi these teeth have their extremities, 9, pointed so as to readily en age the strap latter is rawn inl a direction from the pointed ends toward the end bar, 2, as-will re ,'ently be explained.
The cross-bar, 4, has position next to the end bar with thcl teeth and sai'd cross-bar has inwardly-ext@ nding ends, 10, so that terrnerliate l'iurtions, 11, between rsaid ends will lie in a plane depressed from and within the outer surface of the side bars. This ycross-bar, 4, may be' l{.nro'vided with' teeth, 12, y
which project lateral from the intermediate depressed ortion as seen in Fig. 1 'or it may be forme, merely depressed and without teeth as seen in Fig, 5. By providing the. teeth, 12, on said cross-bar the straps may be material when the I their-- attached thereto without stitching as the teeth'will engage the strap thus avoiding the hereas without the` ends would be passed around said'bar and then stitched to prevent necessity of "tltching 'disenglagernent eading the straps through the buckle 4 inclusive, one strap, 13, 3, then out and In shown in Figs. 1 to passes beneath the end bar, over the depressed cross-bar, nerl surface r,is engaged by the teeth, r12, and the end of said stra then projects beneath the .end bar 2. h other strap, 14, is passed from`beneath the lateral portions, teeth, 5; then over the strap, the de ressed cross-bar,v d, .beneat the end bar, ,3. that all appearances of 8, of the and 'finally out where. the two straps Lpas oynth depressed t at t is e ect is-pro.,
bar, 4, avoided an duced by the depressionl of The threading of the stra shown in Fig. \5 lsprecisely t the said bar.
first beneaththe end bar, 2, then outl "s inthe buckle` e saine as herel e, Where its inl 13, and around'v tnwill be noted humpv at the point: I
:is employed in the specification and claims i 1s to he construed to meen one or more teeth,
it being immaterial es to how many teeth nre employed on any ot the hurs el' the buckle.
Having thus described my invention what I einnn ns new and desire to secure hyfLetters Patent is,-
