Description

Aug. 27, 1957 P. L. MANALO INFANT CARRYING DEVICE INFANT SAFETY Filed Oct. I0: 1955 .0 m; m L 0 m P United States Patent INFANT CARRYING DEVICEINFANT SAFETY Pedro L. Manalo, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application October 10, 1955, Serial No. 539,307
1 Claim. (Cl. 224--6) This invention relates to infant carrying devices.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an infant carrying device which is adapted to be supported from one shoulder and which will permit freedom of both hands.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an infant carrying device of the above type which includes a sponge rubber pad for supporting the infant and a built in pocket and wherein novel means are provided for supporting the same in a safe manner.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an infant carrying device bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in use.
For other objects and a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention showing the same in operative use;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the belt forming a part of the invention and shown alone;
Fig; 3 is a perspective view of the canopy forming another part of the invention shown alone; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the bow as tied through the loop of cord forming another part of the invention. 3
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, represents a waist encircling belt which is adapted to be secured about the waist of the wearer by means of the fastening construction 11 and 12, substantially as illustrated. A shoulder strap 13 is formed at the lower ends thereof with the loop portions which receive therethrough the belt 10 and mounts at the upper end thereof a spring hook 14 of a type well known to those skilled in the art. With the belt encircling the waist of the wearer, as shown in Fig. 1, the shoulder strap 13 will rest upon the shoulder of the wearer.
A rectangular canopy of cloth 15 is provided around the border thereof with the edging 16 and is formed of a pair of parallel, laterally spaced tunnels 17 by means of the stitching 18 (Fig. 3). Stilfening rods 19 are disposed within the tunnels 17 and define a rectangular central portion across which is secured a sponge rubber pad 20 by means of a strap 21, the ends of the strap 21 being suitably secured to the canopy 15. A pair of loops 22 are secured at the ends of strap 21.
A pair of V-shaped straps 23 are secured to the outer sections of the canopy by means of stitching 24 and are provided at their central portions with the rings ice 25 adapted to be engaged with the spring loop 14 whereby to support the same in the manner shown. The portions of the canopy outwardly of the straps 23 are secured against the inner portion by means of the rivets whereby to dispose these flap forming portions on the interior of the canopy. The inner face of one of the outer sections of the canopy is provided with a pocket formed by the rectangular material 27 and stitching 28 adapted to contain therewithin the articles of clothing 29 or the like. A pocket 30 is secured to the central portion by means of the flexible length of material 31 and the loop 32 which is threaded through the canopy (Fig. 3).
A V-shaped cord 33 (Fig. 4) has its lower end thereof secured to the canopy 15 adjacent the other of the stiffening rods and mounts at the upper end thereof a ring 34 which cooperates with the strap 23 and ring 25 to support the canopy as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 also discloses the manner in which one of the loops 22 is tied with the bow or ribbons 26.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having now set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
An infant carrying device comprising a substantially rectangular canopy of fabric, a pair of laterally spaced, parallel tunnels formed in said canopy, stiffening rods 'carried within said tunnels and forming a central section and two rectangular outer sections, pad means mounted on said central section adapted to support an infant thereon comprising a rectangular resilient pad, a strap extending parallel to said stiffening rods having the free ends thereof secured to said canopy and receiving said pad therebelow, a pair of loops secured to the canopy at opposite ends of said strap, a pair of V-shaped supports extending from opposite sides of said stiffening rods, each of said supports being secured to one of said outer sections and provided with supporting rings at their upper ends, means for supporting said rings on the shoulder of wearer comprising a waist encircling belt, means for adjustably securing the ends of said belt together about the waist of the wearer, a shoulder strap having loops at each end for receiving waist encircling belt, a spring hook secured to said shoulder strap intermediate the ends thereof for receiving said supporting rings, the portions disposed outwardly of each of said supports defining a pair of triangular flaps, and means for securing each of said pairs of flaps to the interior of said respective sections comprising flexible straps secured to the opposite ends of said canopy outwardly of said stiffening rods, said straps being tied together across the inside of said canopy.
