Be it known that l[, STEPHEN Lnnor Knu- Nnor, a citizen of the United States, reading at Beloit, in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Safety Baby-Harness, of which the following as a a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to an improved safety baby harness.

It is a well known fact that infants, when sitting up in the carriage or in. the crib, or in a high-chair, very often exert themselves freely endeavoring to rise up or climb out of the crib, carriage or high-chair, or to change from sitting posture. Very often babies receive knocks and bruises, sometimes otherwise injured in such endeavors, particularly when they are not under the watchful eye of the mother.

Therefore, the present invention aims to provide a safety baby harness, to retain the baby or infant in the position it is placed, and to prevent excessive reaching or lurching forward or laterally, particularly to such an extent as would cause the infant or baby to fall out of the carriage or high-chair.

In order to accomplish this result, the improved baby harness is provided, having straps engaging over the shoulders of the baby, and a transverse strap or piece connecting the rear ends of the shoulder straps, this latter strap having an adjustable connection with the forward lower ends of the shoulder-straps, which adjustable strap connections are provided with detachable members, to hold the harness in engagement with the body of the baby or infant, there being means on the side of the harness to engage the side rails of the crib or chair, carriage or the like,

Another feature of the invention is the provision of a transverse strap connecting the rear part of the shoulder straps, so that together with the first transverse strap, a firm back brace or strap frame is provided, so asto reinforce the back of the infant or baby when in a sitting posture.

These straps 15 also carry snap hooks 1?, to engage the coupling links, in the application of the baby harness, it is disposed so. that the head of the baby or infant engages between the shoulder straps, the shoulder straps engaging the shoulders, while their rear portions extend downwardly at the rear of the backof the baby or infant. Tn order to apply the baby harness, the snap hook in the front is opened, and the arms of the baby or infant are inserted through the harness, as may be obvious, owing to the disclosure in Fig. l, and after in front is reengaged with the ring. The loops formed by the straps 15 are then engaged with the sides of the baby carriage, high-chair, crib or the like, thereby preventing the baby or infant ltlli from lurching in various directions, and consequently avoiding injury to the baby or infant. It will be noted that the rear parts of the shoulder straps 1 and 2 have riveted thereto in a transverse position, a reinforcing or bracing strap, 18, whichlies across the shoulder blades of the baby or infant, thereby not only providin a frame at the rear of the back of the ba y or infant, but also reinforcing the baby or infant in its sitting, posture, and also acting to hold the shoulder straps on the shoulders of the baby or infant.

The various strips, pieces or straps used in the construction of this baby harness may be made of any suitable material, either fabric,

such as canvas or the like, or. leather or any other material, thereby falling within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is: 4 1. In a safety baby harness, the combination with a back brace frame having shoulder straps'engaging over the shoulders "of the baby, adjustable connections at the sides of the harness between the lower rear part of the back brace frame and the forward lower ends of the shoulder straps, whereby the forward lower ends of the shoulders straps remain uniformly spaced, said adjustable connections having adjustable connections with the sides of a baby carriage or high-chair or the like to hold the safety baby harness in position, the forward ends of the said adjustable connections having detachable connections, whereby the baby harness may be easily applied and removed.

2. In a safet baby harness, the combination with sho der pieces adapted to extend .downwardly in front and downwardly at the back of the wearer, of a Waist piece connecting the lower terminals of the front and back parts of the shoulder pieces and having mamas its adjacent ends provided with separable connecting means, a transverse piece connecting portions of the back parts of the shoulder pieces, the sides of the waist iece between the front and back ends 0 the shoulder pieces having separable adjustable connections, whereby the waist piece may be adjusted without changing the positions of the front and back ends of the shoulder pieces respectively relatively to each other, and means connected to the separable ad: justable connections of the waist piece for connection with the opposite sides ofa baby carriage body or the arms of a high-chair.

In a safety baby harness, the combination with shoulder pieces adapted to extend downwardly in front and downwardly at the back of the wearer, of a waist piece, comprising a back part fixedly connected to the lower terminals of the back parts of the shoulder pieces, and forward front parts permanently attached to the lower forward ends of the shoulder pieces, separable adj ustable connections between the adjacent ends of the front and back parts of. the waist piece at the sides of the harness, whereby the waist piece may be adjusted in size, and yet maintaining the forward and rear lower ends of the shoulder pieces uniforml spaced respectively relatively to each ot er, and means carried by the side parts of the waist piece for connection to the opposite sides of a baby carriage body or the arms of a highchair, the upper portions of the back parts of the shoulder pieces havin a ermanent connecting means, to insure ol ing the shoulder pieces uniformly s aced In testimony whereo I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
