Abstract
ABSTRACT
A holding belt arrangement is disclosed for persons sitting on a seat with a free back rest at the bottom, particularly for patients, physically disabled and children. A belt is looped in the form of a loop around the seat back with a vertical median plane and its ends are provided on opposite flat sides of the belt with burr-like fastening layers for fixing to one another. A belt is passed through the loon of the back rest belt between the back of the seat and the belt associated therewith and about the body of the person to be held and its end areas are provided with fastening means for fastening to one another. The back rest belt on its flat side which faces the back of the person to be held during use is provided with transverse-ly directed openings used for passing through shoulder and leg belts provided additionally to or in place of the body belt.

Description
The invention relates to a holding belt for persons sitting on a seat with a free back rest at the bottom, particularly a vehicle seat. The novel holding belt is mainly intended for patients, the physically disabled and children.
The fundamental problem the invention seeks to overcome is to provide a holding belt of the aforementioned type which makes it possible to safely and reliably secure, without causing uncomfortable and unnecessary confinement, persons who, due to weakness, are unable to maintain an upright body position or who could endanger themselves and others due to restless behaviour, particularly in vehicles.
Therefore the invention provides a holding belt comprising a combination of the following features: a first belt adapted to be positioned in a substantially vertical loop around the back of a seat; first fastening means on the first and second ends of said first belt for retaining said first belt in position in the substantially vertical loop; a second belt adapted to be positioned in a substantially horizontal loop, one side of which passes through the vertical loop of said first belt between the front surface of the seat back and said first belt, and which passes around the body of a person to be held in the seat; second fastening means on the first and second ends of said second belt for retaining said second belt in position in the substantially horizontal loop; and releasable fastening means on said first and second belts~
intermediate the ends of each, for rigidly retaining said second belt and said first belt together while preventing relative movement therebetween when said first belt is in position in the substantially vertical loop and said second belt is in position in the subs*antially horizontal loop.
In a preferred embodiment the invention provides two identical, parallel shoulder and leg belts ~hich can be firmly joined together at a point located on the back of the person to be held, for example by a closing seam. The parts of the belts located in the vicinity of the shoulders of the person to be held can be provided with padded layers. Those parts of the belts between the legs of the person to be held are appropriately pro-vided with a saddle-shaped cushion displaceably arranged thereon.
~' 1 15861'Y
The terminal areas of the body belt may be provided with burr-type fastening layers for fixing to one another. The ends of the body belt and/or shoulder and le~ belts to be fixed to one another may also be provided with eyes or loops through which can be passed one or more magnetic closing studs with insert pin on one of the parts thereof to serve as fastening means. Behind in each case one of two cooperating eyes or loops on the inside of the belt it is possible to provide overlapping pockets which prevent the unintentional dropping out of the pin part of a magnetic closing stud.
